INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Indiana-based Fiscal Tax Company wants to remind qualifying Indiana taxpayers of their last chance to take advantage of a unique education tax credit. The education tax credits were created to give assistance to students enrolled and paying tuition at eligible educational institutions located in Midwestern Disaster Areas from May 20, 2008 and July 31, 2008. For Indiana, this includes schools and institutions in 39 counties. To check for eligibility, Fiscal Tax has developed a one-of-a-kind online Education Tax Credit Eligibility Form found on their website, www.fiscaltax.com.
“The education credits are an especially important for undergraduate and graduate students who are recipients of the Hope Scholarship Credit and the Lifetime Learners Credits,” states John Striewe, President of Fiscal Tax Company. “Their credits are doubled for the 2008 and 2009 tax seasons.”
Education Credits: The Midwestern Disaster legislation expands the Hope and Lifetime Learning educational credits in the following way:
• The Hope Credit is expanded to 100 percent of the first $2,400 in eligible expenses plus 50 percent of the next $2,400 – doubling the maximum Hope Credit from $1,800 to $3,600 for each eligible student.
• The Lifetime Learning Credit is expanded from 20 percent to 40 percent of the first $10,000 in eligible expenses.
“This credit applies to students attending several local schools including IUPUI, Purdue University, The University of Indianapolis, Ivy Tech, and several others,” Striewe states. “With the current economic challenges taxpayers need, more than ever, taxpayers need direction on how to claim every tax credit and deduction available to them.”
