Malicious Software-Are you safe?

These programs, often unknnown to the user, can wreck havoc with your computer. A virus can lay dormant until a specific date, time and then strike, often without warning. What it does varies upon among the thousands of viruses known. "Spyware can be installed without the users knowledge, often when not very well known websites are entered. These programs capture keystrokes and send data to the person who wrote it. Some emails even try to trick you into going to a fake website of your financial institution. This is known as "phishing". The criminal would like you to believe that the email is legitimate and from your banking institution so that you will update your personal information. When you fill out the form and submit it your bank is not the receiver. Although it could happen to anyone, less computer savvy people are extremely prone to these dangers. Often these dangers keep those less computer savvy or even some seniors away from the internet.
