Recently, on Jan 25th 2010, the weight loss community at weightism.org successfully completed the run for life marathon. During this marathon, about two dozen people completed a short course of three miles. The objective of this short marathon was to spread awareness of a healthy lifestyle among its members and setup a fine example for the community.
During this run for life event, most participants were individuals who are overweight. These participants did not necessarily run the whole time, but were able to complete the course at their own pace. The idea was to give your best. One participant did not complete the route because of health issue. Overall, it was a very nice and energizing event for the whole community and a tremendous inspiration for all the participants.
The winners were handed over Subway gift cards, as it is one of the healthiest places to eat (if selection is made wisely). During the course of this marathon many participants handed out weight loss information leaflets to many spectators. The rally was a low key event and we anticipate to do it more often.
Weight loss has become a huge challange as more and more people are getting obese over time. Unhealthy lifestyle, fast foods and lack of exercise are basically crumbling our society. The weight loss forums at http://www.weightism.org are designed so that members of community can help each other. Information on the forum is not medically certified, but it has lot of ideas that you might want to discuss with our doctor for losing weight.
The event was a great learning opportunity for all of us, and we hope that our message has gone much further. The little money needed to organize the rally was funded by local businesses. Obesity is an epidemic, and our goal is to help people who are looking for information for weight loss. Live healthy!
