AHPPA, Asociación Humanitaria Para la Protección Animal de Costa Rica, translates to “Humanitarian Association for the Protection of Animals” in Costa Rica. This no-kill shelter is home to many unwanted and abused animals, and includes a state-of-the-
A devoted group of volunteers, led by founder, Lillian Schnog Nagtegaal, assist in the care and adoption for these poor furry creatures. AHPPA is affiliated with the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) of Great Britain and as a shelter partner with the Humane Society International (HSI).
The Humane Society USA and HSI, along with sponsors VISA and Zazzle, have begun the 2010 Pet Photo Contest in conjunction with SPAY DAY, an annual, global event to assist with low and no-cost spay and neutering of cats and dogs.
To help AHHPA in Costa Rica with much needed funds, participating in the Pet Photo Contest can be done in one of three ways:
1) Visit the Costa Rica Pets Photo submissions page http://photocontest.humanesociety.org/
2) Enter the Contest with your Pet Photo http://photocontest.humanesociety.org/
3) Use the Filter by Organization drop down menu on the Search Pets page to locate Pet Photo Entries from Costa Rica who have generously allocated their fund raising efforts to AHPPA.
Every vote and dollar donated in your pet's name or that of another pet will help spay and neuter animals to control overpopulation. In many countries, especially Costa Rica, the number of abandoned, homeless, and abused dogs is a serious issue.
As you can see in this video, AHPPA operates their facility with attention to the animals in a well organized and caring manner, here, after a natural disaster in Costa Rica.
