January 28th, 2010 - New Orleans, LA
Heather and Tim Ryan couldn’t wait to install their new Viking stove, purchased in late August 2005. It was a floor model but a splurge nonetheless for the otherwise frugal couple. Shortly after the stove was delivered in all its stainless steel glory, news filled the airwaves that a major hurricane was headed towards New Orleans.
The stove survived the hurricane, but spent the next three years in storage while the Ryan’s rebuilt their storm-damaged home. Not any more. The stove now enjoys a newly designed kitchen where it plays a supporting role in The Herbivore Next Door, a vegetarian cooking show produced by the Ryan’s in New Orleans.
The Herbivore Next Door is a fun, informative and entertaining show that focuses on simple recipes using healthy and natural ingredients. Heather Ryan, a personal trainer, yoga instructor, and vegetarian cook hosts the show. In addition to over a decade of restaurant experience, the Louisiana native has a background in theatre and improvisational comedy.
“I’ve had this vision for a healthy cooking show since Katrina. I wanted to do something around vegetarian cooking that would appeal to both hard-core vegetarians and meat-eating lumberjacks alike,” says host Heather Ryan. “My goal is to demonstrate how to prepare vegetarian entrees that everyone will enjoy.”
Heather’s husband Tim Ryan produces the show and is on year two of a vegetarian diet. “I told Heather that I’d consider going vegetarian if she could prepare meals that were so good I wouldn’t miss meat. Well, two years later my diet is meat free and I’m producing a vegetarian cooking show. Go figure! On top of that, my total cholesterol level has dropped 23 points.”
The show is open to sponsors including natural food retailers and manufacturers looking for a unique way to build brand and connect with customers.
