Trenton Rotary’s Winter Beach Blast committee is seeking out area businesses, organizations and individuals interested in becoming sponsors or attendees of the third annual Winter Beach Blast, scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, March 5, at Crystal Gardens in Southgate, Mich.
And, just as they have the past two years, the organizers are working hard to make sure this beach-themed benefit party remains one of the region’s best attended events of the season.
Nearly 500 people attended last year’s event, which raised more than $18,000 to support the Rotary Club’s charitable causes.
“We’re hoping to top those totals this year,” Club President Brad O’Connor said. “Right now we’re still trying to get businesses involved as supporting partners or to reserve tables of 10 at a discounted rate.”
The price is the same ($35 in advance), but the extensive entertainment offerings have been enhanced once again. Along with the competitive beach games, tropical dancers and party professionals such as T.J. Monte Productions and Fun Services getting into the act, the event for the first time also will feature a live band. The group, The Classics (www.theclassicsband.com)
The ticket price also includes dinner (food stations — with a beach menu theme, of course) and an open premium bar.
O’Connor said businesses and individuals interested in getting involved as sponsors can get in touch with Dr. Noel Jackson, the chairman, at 734-671-2202. Primary sponsorship levels include “Big Kahuna” ($1,000), “Land Shark” ($500), “Parrot Head” ($250) and “Lifeguard ($125).” The event also provides the opportunity to buy tickets by the table at a discounted rate (10 tickets for $300). Comprehensive details on the sponsorship options are available at www.winterbeachblast.com.
“It’s a great way to take the office out for an evening and leave all the planning and effort to us,” Jackson said.
The entertaining evening will be interspersed with prize drawings and both silent and live auctions. Items up for bid include tropical vacations, tickets to sports events, sports memorabilia, a big-screen TV, themed gift baskets and a wide variety of other items.
The Blast committee still is seeking additional donated items to put up for bid, the value of which could be tax deductible (consult your accountant or tax preparer). People who have auction items to donate can contact either Timber Baun Crooks, the event co-chair, 734-676-4949, or Carol Crumpton, 734-846-5964.
Trenton Rotary supports as many as 50 different charities or events each year with its donations. A full list of the organizations that Trenton Rotary has provided assistance to in recent years is available on the club’s Web site at www.trentonrotary.net.
Tickets can be obtained by contacting Kyle Stack at (734) 493-3817.
The beach theme will be prevalent in the room décor at the banquet hall, and ticket purchasers are being encouraged to dress in Hawaiian or other beach attire. Prizes will be awarded for the best beach attire.
