MYX®, the only Asian American music entertainment and lifestyle channel in the U.S., unveiled recently two exciting shows to pump its program line-up for 2010.
Vinyl Addiction gives the audience an in depth, look at the world of Vinyl Toys. Art toys have jumped on the scene as a new highly collectible artistic medium. Tracing its roots from the streets of Asia, this culture has slowly become a worldwide phenomenon and a voice for many emerging underground artists.
Vinyl Addiction features behind-the-scenes interviews with top vinyl toy artists and collectors, presents store profiles, and covers related events.
Jesse Hernandez, co-creator and art director of the animated comedy series, The Nutshack, hosts and produces Vinyl Addiction. Hernandez’s artwork has been featured in Rolling Stone Magazine, Maxim, YRB, Giant Robot, Clutter and FLUX. He currently has had toys released with Kid Robot, Bic Plastics, Kaching Brands and Toyqube.
The other new show that premiered recently on MYX® is Visual Crunch. The concept behind the show is simple and logical: cool “little” music videos pop up on internet video sharing outlets like YouTube and Vimeo everyday. Many of these hidden gems are never given the chance to cross over to mainstream television and recording industries because the artists are “indie” or independent from major commercial record labels and thus adopt the do-it-yourself approach to music video production. Have you ever wondered how they are able to produce groundbreaking, creative music videos with impossibly low budgets in this age? Hear it straight from the artists, directors and producers who produce these music video miracles on Visual Crunch.
MYX®, as a music entertainment and lifestyle channel catering to Asian American youth, constantly receives submissions from independent artists. As part of the channel’s mission to showcase the best music videos to the Asian American community, MYX® makes a genuine effort to give opportunities to indie talents who have what it takes to stand out. Visual Crunch was made to be their platform to reach out to their audience.
For its first episode, Visual Crunch already featured the indie videos “Young San Francisco” by Boy in Static, and “Gravity” by Vienna Teng. Boy in Static is a band that has received rave reviews from the likes of The New York Times, The Boston Globe, and Grooves. XLR8R described “Young San Francisco” as making for “a palate of strings, pianos, and electro synths served over hefty doses of electronic bleeps.” RCRD LBL wrote that it is a “recession-
