Josephine Ford Cancer Center- Downriver located at 19675 Allen Road in Brownstown is offering a new support group to patients who specifically have head and neck cancer on the 4th Tuesday of the month from 4-5:30pm.
Susan Hill, Registered Dietician and Program Coordinator said, “There are specific issues for folks who have head and neck cancer. Many cannot swallow or move without severe pain. Treatments are likewise as painful, so we have formed this group to provide hope and help to manage discomfort.”
This verbal support group helps patients who are having difficulty eating and drinking. Tips from nutritionists encourage patients and caregivers to prepare balanced diets and methods that assist with feeding. The assembly also addresses issues of difficult procedures and what to expect. Ms. Hill has gathered a team of mentors for newly diagnosed patients.
These survivors aid new patients with coping techniques for treatments and assist by providing their experience on procedure options. Caregivers and family are welcome. For more group information call Connie Lass, RN 734- 479-3311 or Susan Hill, RD
