There is even an old movie house in a turn of the century town display where you can go in, sit down and watch Charlie Chaplin movies to your hearts content. The museums primary role is public educator and there are several activities and displays that appeal directly to children. Attached to the Royal BC Museum is an IMAX Theatre, there is always something interesting to see on the big screen.
Tourism in Victoria BC does not always have to involve spending money. If you are looking for free things to do in Victoria BC go visit the Parliament Buildings and historic Beacon Hill Park. The Parliament Buildings is accessible 9-5ish Monday to Friday, don't let the guards scare you away. Go right in through side door beside the main entrance, you can take a guided tour or you are also free to explore the buildings on your own. Beacon Hill park is a five minute walk from downtown and is the best place to take the children. There is a petting zoo and 2 water parks for those hot summer days. Beacon Hill park also has a few kilometres of coastline that are made accessible via stairways and paths. You could spend a whole day exploring Beacon Hill Park, better yet, bring a picnic lunch along that make that family moment all the more special.
