The South African-American Chamber of Commerce in Atlanta - SAACOC - has spearheaded an initiative to celebrate the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ from June 11 to July 11, 2010. Several bi-national Chambers of Commerce, Consulates, the World Trade Center Atlanta, and community organizations have joined the ‘Atlanta International Soccer Fest 2010’ campaign. Proceeds from the event will be donated to SOS Children’s Villages USA (www.sos-usa.org)
A string of events and celebrations are being organized including VIP opening and closing receptions for all sponsors, a multi-national soccer tournament on June 12 & 13, multiple game viewing parties throughout metro-Atlanta, and a final game viewing festival complete with international food and flair on July 11, with viewing of the World Cup Finale on large screens.
This celebration will be an important element in creating a bid package to solidify Atlanta’s place as a contender to host the FIFA World Cup in either 2018, or 2022, an honor Atlanta will be competing for against 18 other cities.
The relationship between soccer and SOS Children’s Villages has been established years ago through similar partnerships with FIFA and SOS. Soccer plays a positive role in the lives of children by contributing to their physical and social development. SOS Children’s Villages fourteen years of cooperation with FIFA has raised more than $25 million, and has led to the construction of six new SOS Villages in Brazil, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa, Ukraine and Vietnam.
The initiative is currently seeking sponsorships. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, please contact Irene Bailey at irene[at]sos-
