Jan. 25, 2010 - PRLog -- With the domain name market having such a fantastic year it's no wonder the prices of domain names have inflated to astronomical prices. For Example: "Toys.com which was sold to Toys"R"Us to help brand the toy store. What’s more amazing and our topic of discussion is the prices of four letter domain names. After this publisher toured around online message boards specializing in domain names I feel it's safe to report that the average price is a four letter domain name is approximately $1,000. Of course, that number derives from online message boards, which ultimately could be speculators and people inflating the prices of their domain names.

Though, even with a cautious approach to the domain name market experts believe that their is definitely an underlying value to domain names. Even random four letter domain names that look like they wouldn't be good for anything other than a stock ticker. Now, after this publisher did his own research, we found that their are still four letter domain names still available(Source Available Below). Which was an unexpected, since we would have believed that with demand levels this high we would think their wasn't any more available.

After interviewing with a few domain speculators and interviewers on why those domains are still available they failed to provide a suitable answer. As of now, the best answer we believe was the fact that they are still available and a single fact that all the available domain names have in common make them un-desirable. Ultimately, I argued that the domain names that are still available have more branding capabilities than a random sequence of letters.

Of course my argument was declined any additional comments. Even if online message boards are filled with spammers and people who don’t play fairly. In fact, sometimes people are willing to create multiple accounts to talk to themselves on a single thread. Usually this is done in an attempt to create a buzz about the topic and sell their product. Of course, practices like that can convince people into believing something that just isn’t true.

Even while online message boards might not be the best source of information. One thing is certain about domain names that achieve valuable status: They’re becoming less of them everyday. While, it’s a good practice to be tactful in selling domain names, keep in mind domain squatting is illegal. Domain Squatting, which was the practice of buying a domain name in the name of an organization, the slenderizing that company until they purchase the domain name from you at a huge premium.

Since then practice has been outlawed by congress which is why people who approach the domain market be careful not to infringe on copyrights. Also, it’s noteworthy that the majority of time copyrights will not be as obvious as the giant corporations brand name. Sometimes, it’s even a little mom and pa store that has a right to a domain name. Which could ultimately lead to a costly legal battle over something you don’t have a right to.
