Zelfo material has made its debut on the French design scene in the "Aides à la creation" exhibition sponsored by VIA in their 30TH anniversary year. Zelfo features in two furniture based designs, a chair and table that have been constructed using unique method of binding structural elements with Zelfo nano-fibre technology. These two products are complimented by a small collection of enchanting suspended lighting shades displaying the translucent aspect of Zelfo when it is used as a thin lamina. The project is the result of the combined efforts of the designer Elise Gabriel and TheGreenFactory of Paris France, both of whom have received substantial interest thanks to VIAs "Partnership Project" program. Ms. Gabriel is in good company as VIA has supported a host of star designers in the past such as Gaetano Pesce, Jean Nouvel and Philippe Stark. The exhibition, located in the VIA Gallery (29 avenue Daumesnil, Paris), runs from the 21st January until 7th March 2010.
TheGreenFactory, who are licensees of Omodo GmbH the patent holder of the Zelfo process, are currently involved in an intense development program together with Agromat in Toulouse, France. The results to date reveal great potential for the full industrialisation of Zelfo and as such TheGreenFactory have picked up several notes of interest from multinational firms over the past year. “2010 should see the emergence of a new wave of product solutions says TGFs Martin Hieaux”.
‘Zelfo’ consists of micro and nano sized cellulose rich fibres sourced both from new and recycled sources, where it can be said to “upgrade waste”. Requiring no additional synthetic binder during manufacturing, the end product can range in density from 0.5 to 1.5 Grams per centimetre depending on the choice of fibre and the choice of product and production optimizing additive materials. 100% biodegradable and offering new design opportunities for consumer and interior products, Zelfo is a bio-mimicry must for eco-conscious creatives today.
TheGreenFactory are currently in negotiations with Omodo GmbH and partners concerning the launching of a dedicated ‘Portal’ for Zelfo products to be known as ‘Omodo Europe’. Planned for launch in the Spring of 2010, Omodo Europe will be a ‘one stop shop’ dealing with licensing, purchasing, and technical enquiries.
