RALEIGH, NC. – On February 6, 2010, Yolanda Ventura, the Memory Keeper’s Coach, will hostess the Scan Project Haiti fund-raiser at the New World Coffee House, located at 4112 Pleasant Valley Road in Raleigh, from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM. During the fund-raiser, people throughout the Triangle area are asked to bring up to one shoebox full of their paper-based photos to the coffee shop for high-resolution scanning. Ms. Ventura and her team will process the photos on-site and save them as digital copies onto either a CD or provided thumb drive. Half of all proceeds raised during the day will be donated to the American Red Cross’ Haitian Relief and Development fund, designed to ease the burden in Haiti following the January 12th earthquakes. Ms. Ventura and her team hope to scan 10,000 photos through this effort, which will allow them to donate more than $800 to the relief efforts. Quotes:
“When word of the disaster hit, I did as people throughout the country and world did: I reached into my pocket and donated what I could - $10 – to help Haiti. But, the horrific moments that I kept seeing online and in the news tore at my heart. I wanted to do more, but as an entrepreneur who opened for business just a year ago, money is really tight right now. That’s when I realized that I could use my skills to raise money and provide more relief.” – Yolanda Ventura, the Memory Keeper’s Coach
