Jan. 25, 2010 - PRLog -- Information Security Professional Community Grows in Asia-Pacific as (ISC)²® Membership Reaches 10,000

Local affiliates and interest groups provide career development support

Hong Kong, Jan. 25, 2010 – (ISC)2® (“ISC-squared”), the not-for-profit global leader in educating and certifying information security professionals throughout their careers with more than 71,000 credentials issued to 66,000 members worldwide, today reported its membership across the Asia-Pacific (A-P) region has reached the 10,000 mark.

A-P membership has grown from 7,500 in 2007 to over 10,000 by the end of 2009; with a growth rate of 33 percent over the past three years.

Economies with nearly 1,000 or more members as of 31 December 2009 include: Australia (1,183); Hong Kong (1,270); India (1,158); Japan (1,191), Singapore (981), and South Korea (2,480). (ISC)2 is orchestrating plans to further support the growing demand for information security professionals in the region by increasing relationships with local affiliates and strategic alliances in 2010; particularly in the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.  In addition, (ISC)2’s government program is gaining momentum as an increasing number of government agencies in Asia are sending their staff through our education and certification programs for the CISSP and SSCP.

“We are very pleased with the growing commitment to professionalizing the information security workforce in Asia-Pacific,” said W. Hord Tipton, CISSP-ISSEP, CAP, CISA, executive director for (ISC)2. “Part of the growth of certification is attributed to the dedication and support from our education affiliates and Affiliated Local Interest Groups (ALIGs) throughout the region.  The (ISC)² member community has also played a role by coming together to promote a professional standard within their organizations. ”

Launched in 2005, the (ISC)² ALIG program aims to help local interest groups support their members by offering enhanced benefits, such as convenient education opportunities and greater access to other local professionals, as well as peer networking opportunities. Current ALIG members in Asia-Pacific include:
•   Australian Information Security Association (www.aisa.org.au)
•   Data Security Council of India (DSCI) (www.dsci.in)
•   Hong Kong Professional Information Security Association (www.pisa.org.hk)
•   Korea CISSP Chapter (www.cisspkorea.or.kr)
•   Malaysia INFOSEC.my (www.cybersecurity.org.my)
•   Singapore Association of Information Security Professionals (www.aisp.sg)
•   Thailand Information Security Association (www.tisa.or.th)

Apart from local professional organizations enabling individual members access to a growing and trusted network of peers in the region, (ISC)2 has launched ‘InterSeC’, a professional networking site exclusive to its members. On this site, members can connect with (ISC)² members around the world who share similar interests, while facilitating discussion and interaction. To date, there are a lot of activities on this platform, from country-based forums and career recommendations, to discussion groups on a wide range of issues from cloud computing to risk management and compliance. (ISC)2 members can join InterSeC by visiting the member home page (http://members.isc2.org) and clicking on the InterSeC logo on the upper right-hand side.
