A New Travel Wiki Website Has Been Launched

The travel website (travelandtourisminfo.com) is proud to announce that it has transformed itself into a 'Wiki' based portal. This travel information portal has also acquired a short and an easy to remember domain name called TRAVELNAME ( URL:  http://www.travelname.com). The main objective of doing this conversion is to allow visitors to easily modify the pages and add more information to this travel website. Wiki model also promotes creation of new pages in a very straightforward way. One does not need to create a personal account as travel articles can be created or modified by an unregistered Guest.

This is a significant step towards making the website more interactive. The older domain (travelandtourisminfo) was able to accept changes but the process was completely manual. We were also able to take one of the easiest domain name in travel world - TravelName, which is much easier to remember and type on the address bar. We currently have about 350 articles and the number is expected to grow over time. The website receives about 500 unique visitors every day and about 900 total page visits.

Moderation of documents can be easily done either by Administrators or even by standard users. One can compare both new and old versions of a page using the 'History' section. We have also enabled Captcha to prevent automated robots submitting junk content. The site is powered by MediaWiki software, the same which powers Wikipedia. This travel portal is also equipped with a Rick Text Editor (FckEditor), which makes creation and modification of pages very fast. The website is targeted to help people looking for useful travel information. This travel website also covers several 'World Heritage Sites', and also has a large section on Africa.

Most articles were originally written in year 2007 and have experienced little or no changes. We anticipate that conversion to Wiki style website is a great change and travel enthusiasts will be able to contribute their work more frequently. As always, this website is not an official guide for any travel location, one should always refer official websites for most up to date information.
