Jan. 24, 2010 - PRLog -- These are things you need to look for from a basement waterproofing company so you are not scammed by a contractor installing a cheap, ineffective system, that you will have to replace because the contractor cut corners. If you do not follow these steps then your basement will FLOOD again.

PVC Pipe- has 2 holes in the bottom this allows water to get into the pipe and with the large holes the system wont clog as easily as other systems. Black pipe was not created for basement waterproofing, but it is cheaper to install then PVC pipe.

Washed Gravel- This is the only gravel that should be used for basement waterproofing systems. Washed Gravel allows water to travel into the pipe with out any problems.

A Large Trench- This is also very important because if you have a serious water problem and you are tapping the basement walls if your trench and pipe are not the proper size then your system could back up into your finished basement.

Proper Sloping- Water flows down hill, so should your basement water proofing pipes. They should be sloped one inch per ten feet. This why plumbers grade PVC pipe is very important, because black pipe can not be slopped, and PVC pipe can.

Squared Corners- When you use the proper PVC pipe the you can properly square off the corners. If you use black pipe then you have round off the corners because black pipe can only bend.

Drilling The Holes- Cinder block walls have 2 holes in every block if you do not drill/weep holes you leave water standing in your basement wall. And the corners have 3 holes, all these are details are important to having a complete system.

Commercial Sump Pump- You can install everything right but if you don't have a powerful enough pump then it will never matter your basement will flood all over again.

A Large Pit - Having a oversized sump pump pit is also very important for if anything goes wrong, like a power outage the size of your pit is your last defense to preventing another basement flood. The pit should be level bellow ground with a heavy duty lid that you can stand on with out falling in. (It is best to buy a battery back up at your local hard ware store not from a basement waterproofing company)

Wash Out Line- This can be the most important part of your basement waterproofing system. A wash out line will save you thousands of dollars because you wont have to replace your system ever again. Why is this? Its because your system can clog and if it does and if you don't have a wash out line. Then the only way to unclog your system is to rip it out and start all over again. Having a PVC pipe is also very important because it can be snaked and black pipe can not.

Discharge Line- You don't want the water that you just pumped out of your house to come right back into your house all over again. This can cause an over flow of your system and burn up your pump much faster. Causing your basement to flood all over again.

Again if you dont follow these rules then you will pay the price and have to pay another waterproofing company to do it right, and install a new proper system all over again.
