Cumbria, the lake district county of the United Kingdom has packed for the people including international tourists, more Michelin-starred quality restaurants than most other counties in the United Kingdom.
The ultimate culinary honour, the recognition by the Michelin tourist guide has been bestowed upon three restaurants located in the picturesque backdrop of the Cumbrian Lake District.
Two such establishments are located in Windmere. They are The Samling and the Holbeck Ghyll. Both the restaurants have retained their Michelin-star status.
A sister establishment to the Samling, Ullswater's Sharrow Bay had acquired its maiden star in the Great Britain Michelin Guide for this year. The head chef of the hotel, Colin Akrigg has worked in the hotel from 1968, when at the age of thirteen he had joined the hotel staff as a kitchen porter.
According to the chief executive officer of Cumbria Tourism, Ian Stephens, the ratings referred to a prestigious honour for the hotel and restaurant industry of the are. He added that it also maeant that their visitors as well as the residents were provided with the luxury of choice for a special place to dine among the choicest company in the UK.
