Welsh Baccalaureate set to be a success

Jan. 21, 2010 - PRLog -- The Welsh Baccalaureate is rapidly becoming a qualification of choice in schools in Wales and is now accreddited for further education.
The qualification builds on the existing A-level subjects that students take and includes evidence taken from those subjects along with additional tasks.

The Qualification
The Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification consists of two parts:

Core - consisting of five components i.e. Key Skills, Wales, Europe and the World, Work-related Education, Personal and Social Education and the Individual Investigation.

Options - courses / programmes currently offered e.g. General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE), Vocational GCSE (VGCSE), Advanced Subsidiary / Advanced (AS / A levels), National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC), Principal Learning and Project Qualification.

Together, the Core and Options make up the Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification.

What does it set out to achieve?
By adding personal development skills to vocational qualifications or academic study,
the Welsh Baccalaureate helps young people achieve more. It makes them better equipped
for the world of work, better informed and more active citizens.
It allows for more flexibility in their studies, whatever mix of courses they are following.
Students become better prepared for further and higher education, as well as employment.
A Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification is also proof that a student has developed the Key Skills*
considered important by employers and universities. It also shows they have furthered their
personal and social education, undertaken an individual investigation, gained work experience
and actively participated in a community project.
