Jan. 21, 2010 - PRLog -- Perinatal Advisory Council: Leadership, Advocacy and Consultation (PAC/LAC), a  leading source of information and services related to perinatal care, today announced that it has begun work on a consulting contract by First 5 LA in support of the F5LA - Best Start Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative.

PAC/LAC will work with First 5 LA to assess hospital readiness and provide consultation on preparation on becoming “Baby Friendly.” The consulting project will extend through September.

“PAC/LAC was the ideal contractor for this project, given the work already done through the Birth & Beyond California Project and PAC/LAC’s deep relationships with hospitals in Los Angeles County,” said Evelyn V. Martinez, Executive Director for First 5 LA “The hospitals we are reaching through the Best Start Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative already know and trust PAC/LAC’s knowledge and expertise, and we have great confidence in the program as a result.”

This initiative is targeting hospitals in Los Angeles County that have exclusive breastfeeding rates of 24.1 percent or lower, which amounts to approximately 30 hospitals. PAC/LAC will be working directly with up to 20 hospitals to support them in assessing and implementing the best path to becoming Baby Friendly.

“We have a long history of working with First 5 LA, and are happy to be again working with the organization to improve birth outcomes at hospitals throughout the region,” said William Ginsburg, President of the Board of Directors for PAC/LAC. “First 5 LA has made a significant impact on the lives of countless families in Los Angeles County, and it is our honor to support its efforts.”
