Jan. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- Potential illness misery for many guests staying at the 234 room Voyager Beach Resort, Nyali Beach, Kenya.

This all-inclusive resort close to Mombasa boasts a ‘unique nautical theme’, however from the reports being received guests do appear to be all at sea at the moment with an outbreak of what appears to be food poisoning in the hotel.

Standards of food hygiene have been questioned by returning guests with amongst other things reports of the same utensils being used for both raw and cooked meats which could easily lead to potential health issues.

Guests complain of symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting, consistent with food poisoning, with at least one gentleman being hospitalised for a period.

Travel Law specialist Andrew Morton from Pannone LLP says guests affected may have a claim for compensation.  "If they can prove that their sickness was caused by poor standards of hygiene at their accommodation, they could pursue a claim against the Tour Operator", he commented.

"This kind of outbreak is becoming increasingly prevalent.  As more and more holidaymakers travel to destinations outside of Europe, Tour Operators must take steps to ensure health and safety levels at hotels and that they are up to the required standard, otherwise travellers will seek redress for holidays ruined through no fault of their own."
