Jan. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- Minicom Advanced Systems, a leading developer of KVM remote access, KVM management, and KVM extension solutions, introduced its newest LCD drawer with a built-in KVM switch, the SmartRack 232, which helps IT administrators impose order on the chaos of overcrowded server rooms. By reducing cable clutter and streamlining workflow at the rack, the SmartRack 232 gives IT managers sorely needed room in the data center.  A slim, space-saving solution, the SmartRack 232 is an integrated KVM switch for two users, with simultaneous access and control of up to 32 mixed-platform (PS/2 and USB) servers. Rack-mountable and hardware-based, the SmartRack 232 is the most compact choice for KVM access to servers at the BIOS level.

Ideal for dynamic data centers, the SmartRack 232 can be combined with other Minicom products for a number of different access options, such as remote access over IP , or the extension of the distance of a remote user with another new Minicom product, the KVM Extender USB. This flexibility means that the SmartRack 232 can accommodate the needs of data centers as they change and grow.

The KVM Extender USB is an excellent solution for accessing computers centralized in one secure, environmentally controlled location. Clean rooms and kiosks, for example, need a KVM workstation that is physically removed from the computer or KVM switch. Users in a professional setting benefit from being able to work at their desks, without having to get up and go to a server room in order to access a computer or KVM switch. Businesses benefit from saving space and money by eliminating the need for a dedicated KVM workstation. Because one user can switch between and control two computers, while a second user can control one computer, the KVM USB Extender is ideal for PC SOHO (Small Office/Home Office) environments, such as an executive and secretary.

Minicom has a proven track record of increasing IT infrastructure efficiency, and making the most of physical limitations in the data center. The SmartRack 232 joins Minicom’s established, successful product line of space-saving LCD drawers with integrated KVM switches, the SmartRack 116 and the SmartRack 116IP. The KVM Extender USB joins Minicom’s established, successful product line of KVM extenders: Smart Extender, KVMS and Mini KVM Extender.

“The needs of data centers are dynamic. These new products are designed to satisfy the spectrum of server and PC requirements,” explains Benny Hayumi, KVM Product Manager. “Whether IT managers want to be at the rack, at their office, or at home, our solutions provide secure, reliable KVM access to mission critical applications.”
