Olaf Gambini’s Controversial Performances Return to Portland's Pearl District for Februaury's First Thursday art gallery tour.

Notable fine art sensationalist, Olaf Gambini, brings a Valentine's Day themed performance to the Portland's Anka Gallery and Tribute Gallery to celebrate First Thursday.

Portland, Oregon, January 15, 2010

Anka Gallery and Tribute Gallery welcome international art world gadabout, Olaf Gambini, for a Valetine's Day First Thursday performance that will, once and for all, put an end to love. Gambini emerges from a month's long vacation in Buenos Aires with the fiery passion that will tango into the hearts of even the most frigid… and possibly explode them. As an expression of his tender and romantic side, Gambini will take to the streets of Portland and make an offering of his creative soul. The artist's soul is notorious for being romantic, quixotic, hot-blooded and unpredictable. Gambini, being the most notorious of artists, has promised to produce an emotional catharsis so true and so raw that every experience thereafter will seem hopelessly lifeless and grey in comparison.

Gambini will be performing and distributing sweet treats along with the puppet "Lil' Baby G"  as Cupid, flying cherubs and Gambini's Gang of Romantic Misfits at the Anka Gallery and the Tribute Gallery on February 4th, 2010 7:30pm. There will also be a kissing booth to raise funds for The Sisters of The Road, an organization committed to help elevate the lives of the Homeless. So come on by, bring a loved one and wear asbestos.

About Olaf Gambini

Olaf Gambini, famed nothingist and alleged peer to Andy Warhol, became fascinated by the “Keep Portland Weird” bumbersticker philosophy and moved to Oregon from Italy in August 2009. He immediately embraced the local creative community by frequenting the monthly First Thursdays art events where he lavished free public performances upon the surprised onlookers and even graced select works on display with an honest critique. These selfless acts have done much to improve local artists and bolster the reputations of the elite Pearl District galleries he has deigned to visit. The local art scene has enjoyed an undoubted renaissance under his kind attentions and been much uplifted by his presence.

This past December, Gambini descend as if from on high down into the Pearl and appeared to those gathered there as the Virgin Mary. Not a word could be spoken. The crowd was struck dumb. Yet Gambini had not come alone. On his right side was the puppet Baby Gee as naked and pure as another baby had been that day so long ago in Bethlehem. And on his left side were the seven deadly sins as performed by Gambini’s Gang of Misfits, in other words: the entire breadth and depth of human emotion personified.

After Gambini departed, the power of speech returned to those blessed enough to find themselves at the Anka Gallery and the Tribute Gallery that night. A cry went up. Hosanna! Hosanna! Gambini! Witnesses, understandably dumbstruck, were overheard exclaiming disbelief and commenting that they wished their friends and families could have seen what they had just seen.
