Jan. 19, 2010 - PRLog -- CIG believes that U.S. president Barack Obama achieved high marks in his inaugural year in the White House for pushing for $80 billion in clean energy and energy efficiency as part of his economic stimulus plan that he signed into law early in 2009.

The conservation body endorsed his leadership on the U.S. House’s passage of legislation aimed at putting a cap on U.S. emission levels, which are responsible for global warming.

FinSoul understands that the group went on to praise the president for granting California’s waiver to impose strict emission standards on cars and light trucks as well as proposing nationwide standards for vehicle exhaust emissions.

Obama’s Cabinet appointments of Lisa Jackson at the Environmental Protection Agency and Stephen Chu at the Energy Department were also applauded.

The League did however highlight that while the House of Representatives had passed the climate change bill it had been stalled in the Senate since mid 2009, casting doubt over the future of the legislation.

"While President Obama worked hard to ensure that progress was made in Copenhagen, the failure to forge a legally binding international agreement created another significant challenge that he must confront in 2010," FinSoul believes the conservation group said.

The League of Conservation Voters pointed out that Obama had achieved better results than the previous two U.S. presidents had in their first years in office, with George W. Bush only achieving a D-minus.
