Arthroscopy is almost always performed as an outpatient procedure, Dr. Kagan says. “The real benefit of this technique to patients is that it carries less risk and complications than traditional surgical procedures, and there is also less postoperative pain and a quicker recovery time,” he says.
Dr. Kagan routinely uses arthroscopy to repair torn cartilage, ligaments and repair worn bony surfaces in the knee and shoulder. “Arthroscopy is a real benefit to athletes, who don’t like to sit on the sidelines at all,” he says. “This minimally invasive surgery can help get them back on the field or court much faster!” He also specializes in the repair of torn rotator cuff and labrum as well as the removal of shoulder spurs.
Dr. Kagan is affiliated with several professional and high school sports teams in Southwest Florida, including the Florida Everblades, Miracle Baseball Club, Minnesota Twins Spring Training and Fort Myers High School football.
Arthroscopy is beneficial to many patients with joint pain, not just athletes, he also says.
