ECOWORKS INTERNATIONAL REDIRECTS ITS EFFORT IN HAITI

Miami, Florida – Ecoworks International (EWI), a non-governmental Miami-based organization, has been working on a long-term development project in Haiti for over a year. Following the devastation of the January 12th earthquake EWI reinforces its commitment to the Haitian people by concentrating on earthquake disaster response and reconstruction.

EWI’s earthquake emergency efforts focus on:

•   Bringing medical teams and supplies to help save lives in the immediate aftermath of the quake.
•   Feeding the victims, a program partly funded by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, the overseas arm of the American Jewish community.
•   Providing well-designed temporary housing conceived by architects and engineers. Built with non-harmful materials these structures benefit from a well-established track record for comfort and durability.
•   Rebuilding schools.
•   Initiating income generating programs to enable families to earn a living wage and participate in the re-starting of the local economy.

Henryka Manès, EWI’s Executive Director is now in Haiti helping to organize the arrival of 100 doctors, nurses and paramedics trained in disaster response; to implement the feeding program; and to jumpstart the temporary housing and school reconstruction projects.

Ecoworks International has benefitted from the remarkable generosity of many individuals, businesses and communities familiar with its work in Haiti and who initiated fund raising activities on behalf of EWI.  Thanks to those donations, and to its well-established network on the ground, EWI is able to bring direct help to the victims of the earthquake and help turn this terrible tragedy into an opportunity for a new beginning.
