All color clients want natural-looking results, men even more than women.Often, men want enhanced shine and a certain amount of gray coverage, but they do not want a major color change. Their goal is to have friends and family tell them that they look better, or they look younger, not to get compliments on their color.
To achieve the look men desire, highlights and/or lowlights do not stray far from the client’s original color. Often, I even leave gray around the temples. Rather than using foils, it is better to employ a brush-in technique. Always, and as an extra help, the speeding of the processing time with a steamer improves the results.
Most men aren’t interested in appearances as much as they are in the overall benefits derived from being in shape. This goes for their skin as well as for their muscles. Specifically, this means stressing the healthful, positive benefits of products and techniques as they apply to men’s unique needs. Beauticians universally underrate the importance of honoring the ale psyche. Treatments should be simple, quick and practical. Atmosphere is crucial. Haircutting for men is recommended every three weeks, instead of the traditional five to six week turnaround. The business man does not want anyone to notice that his appearance is altered.
Once in the chair, the male client’s biggest expectation is consistency. The key to achieving a smoothly tapered finish every time is the professional cutting.
It is much better when a man looks only a very few years older than his wife and many years younger than he really is. If he looks a great deal older than his wife, people think that the woman is much older than she really is! So wives, take good care of your husbands. “The younger he looks, the younger you look!”
