The challenges associated with setting corporate policies for data management are daunting and complicated. Even more challenging are the issues associated with remediating existing data quality and complexity issues. Problems with existing systems are often caused by data residing in multiple locations that can’t be combined, data that is combined only to find that duplicates and exceptions impact the quality of your processes or data models that conflict with the needs of existing ERP systems. The costs associated with these problems often significantly outweigh the cost of remediating them, but the challenge is in knowing how and where to start the remediation process. Common areas of problem include customer loyalty systems, billing systems, inventory systems, and other large repositories of dynamic data.
Now, a team comprised of senior technology leaders from HPSquared, LLC (a consulting firm focused on assisting clients with some of today’s most challenging IT issues, data governance, data management, data quality and the enhancement and deployment of associated ERP systems) has defined a process for identifying the steps needed to resolve these problems and they’ve packaged the initial discovery process into a one day workshop done on site with the client team. Once the source and scope of issues is identified, HPSquared can also provide the consulting resources to tackle the data, technology and business process corrections.
Phil Teplitzky of HPSquared explains: “We’ve found that one of the most challenging obstacles to remediating data quality issues is in creating a process and framework for identifying the problem sources and impacts. The issues often can’t be resolved just by scrubbing the existing data, there’s are also a data governance issues that can be complicated and beyond the experience level of a company’s existing staff. We’ve developed a methodology that focuses on identifying the source of data corruption, correcting the data currently on hand and repairing the business and application processes that propagate the corrupted data into business operations. Having resolved these issues for multiple companies in the past, we understand how to organize and simplify the remediation process. We’ve packaged our process into a repeatable cost effective program that we bring to new clients."
