Gurux Ltd produces software that gathers information from different kinds of devices, and then refines the gathered data. Since Gurux Ltd went Open Source in September last year, the web team has concentrated it's resources in setting up a web community. Gurux Community utilizes vastly other Open Source solutions, such as Drupal, Mantis, and Sandcastle. Gurux Ltd sees Open Source as a key to success, to any software producer.
Now Gurux Ltd welcomes all users of Gurux products, whether they are long-term users, or new acquaintances, to join Gurux Community. Also everyone, who has interest in device communication in general, or is either working, or is interested in working with protocols, connection types, and so on, is welcome to join in. So far Gurux website has mainly concentrated on giving information of the Gurux software products, but now the company encourages audience to participate.
As leading enterprises of the software branch have developer networks that include news, articles, event listings, forums and blogs, what does Gurux Community have to offer?
- We, Gurux developers, are a relatively small group, so none of us has time enough to write an actual daily blog, as we're busy developing our existing applications further, and creating new ones. On the other hand, our whole website can be seen as a Gurux blog, though new contents does not appear on an every day basis, at least not yet. All our products are available at Sourceforge.net, and every time we get a new version ready and tested, it is published there for the users, construes Mikko Kurunsaari, CEO of Gurux Ltd.
How does a user keep up with what is happening at Gurux community?
- We publish latest news on our front page, and we've set up a forum, and a bug tracker, for our users to bring out their opinions, and suggestions of improvements. We have also added RSS to our site, so people can order Gurux News and our bug tracker change log, as an RSS feed. Our community is build up to be very user-centered, in which the main point is to react to customer feedback with the dedication it deserves. All questions and opinions will be handled with real involvement, and solutions are published ASAP, Kurunsaari promises.
What kinds of memberships does Gurux Community hold?
- Everyone, and anyone, is most welcome to browse our pages and product documentation, read the discussion at our forum, and view the reported issues. Also an anonymous bug report and messaging are made available. This way we try and keep getting started as easy as possible, Kurunsaari says.
- At the moment we have some active members, and we warmly welcome more members to participate. New members are welcome to register into Gurux Web, and start posting. The ones registering, need not to be programmers. Opinions of usability, for example, are just as valuable. It would be ideal, to have all kinds of members, starters, application developers, usability experts as well as ordinary people interested in communication techniques, discussing at Gurux Forum, Kurunsaari emphasizes.
