The book "A New Species" revolves around the characters Kibwe, Imani, Zuberi, Nuru, Sanaa, Sefu, Tendaji, Tieno, Sauda and Ekwan in the setting of 15000 B.C. on the continent of Africa. The characters are the forefathers of the modern vampire. The author brings their adventures to life as they travel across Africa, looking for a place to take up residence. The charcters struggle with moral conflict as well as new abilities and drives that they have to learn to control. The thirst for blood and the other passions that stir them in powerful ways pull at them as they learn about what they have become. Exiled by their clan they look for other people that can accept them as they are.
