Jan. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- The first option is to get your supplies from your local pharmacy. This is also usually the more expensive option. You do get easy access to the pharmacist if you have any questions though.

“…With this option, all you have to do is bring your prescription for your insulin, oral anti-diabetic agent, syringes and lancets to the store and usually within a very short period of time (an hour or two), you have your supplies. The downside of this option is if you only have Medicare as your insurance for your supplies. Many pharmacies will not take Medicare for diabetic supplies (they will take it for oral anti-diabetic agents and insulin/insulin pens). This can add cost to you. If you have any other type of insurance, to supplement with though, this may be the more convenient option…”

If you have Medicare for your supplies, many companies will accept it as full payment for your supplies. This includes, but is not limited to, syringes, blood glucose testing meters and strips, lancets and insulin. These companies also offer a diabetes educator that you can call and speak with if you have any questions. These companies do all the Medicare paperwork for, send you reminders to renew and there is usually no upfront costs.
If you have other insurance besides Medicare you also have the mail order type option. This usually saves you about 30% on your medication if you insurance plan offers it.

“…Keep in mind that through most of these insurances things like support stockings and foot creams are not usually covered. Unna boot dressings usually are though.
There are also many discount websites available for things like stockings, foot creams and travel insulin and supply carrying cases. Look around to find the best deals. There is definitely a savings at them over medical supply houses or your pharmacy.
There are many options available to the diabetic today to get his supplies. All you have to do is decide which the best is for you…”
