ViewGenie Inc. is announcing a new platform that provides automatic visual stylization tools beyond what is currently available with HTML and CSS. These tools do not require any plug-ins, and perform intelligent and dynamic modifications of images on the Internet that are especially useful for web designers. Full implementation details and further information can be found at http://notcss.com. ViewGenie’s patent-pending technology is implemented on sites including ustyle.ca, faceek.com, beutify.com, and most recently, picmee.com.
http://picmee.com is based on a subset of ViewGenie technology that enables the photo-realistic insertion of 2-D images into 3-D scenes. As an example, given a photo that a user would like to display, an appropriate background image is chosen (containing suitable regions that can be overlaid with the user’s photo). These regions are altered to seamlessly display the photo, as though it had been part of the original background image. The appropriate viewing angle, orientation, and other aspects of the inserted photo are automatically computed.
Camera Effects, a new iPhone (and iPod) app, was released to further demonstrate this tool, allowing users to insert any personal photo into background scenes such as Times Square, a museum exhibit, a stadium, and many other places. After taking a photo with the camera or selecting one from the library, the effects become available for browsing right at the users’ fingertips, ready to be saved or emailed to friends.
“Our new iPhone app [Camera Effects] is designed to be as easy-to-use as possible. We are quite pleased with the way it turned out, and I’m sure any user will find it just as entertaining. We are continuing with the development of applications that demonstrate the use of ViewGenie technology,”
Camera Effects is available for download at the iTunes App Store for $0.99 US, and is available for iPhone and iPod OS versions 3.0 and up. For more information about this application as well as ViewGenie and its technologies, please visit the website: http://viewgenie.com.
