Study Just Published: United Arab Emirates Consumer Electronics Report Q1 2010

Jan. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- The UAE's domestic consumer electronics devices market, defined as including computing devices, mobile handsets, and video audio and gaming products, was estimated to be worth around US$2.9bn in 2008. This is expected to increase to US$4.5bn by 2013, driven by the popularity of devices such as 3G mobile handsets, smartphones, mobile computers and LCD and plasma TV sets. Computers Computer hardware accounted for around 61% of UAE consumer electronics spending in 2008.  BMI forecasts UAE domestic market computer sales (including notebooks and accessories) of US$2.0bn in 2009, up from US$1.7bn in 2008. Computer hardware CAGR for the 2008-2013 period is forecast at about 13%, boosted by government and small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) spending as well as consumer segment growth. AV Devices AV devices accounted for around 27% of UAE consumer electronics spending in 2008. The UAE domestic AV device market was estimated at US$765mn. The market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4% between 2008-2013, to a value of US$919mn in that year. Mobile Handsets Mobile handset sales accounted for around 12% of UAE consumer electronics spending in 2008. UAE market handset sales are expected to grow at a CAGR of 5% to US$461mn in 2013, as mobile subscriber penetration reaches 215%. Sales will be dominated by the replacement market and driven by demand for PDAs, smartphones and 3G handsets.
