Steamboat, Colo., -- (Jan. 18, 2010) – point6, the independently owned designer and manufacturer of the “Best Wool Socks Ever,” recently donated 600 pairs of their premium merino wool socks to shelters and groups at a time when these organizations are in short supply. In late November, the socks were allocated to two different organizations, including the Coalition for the Homeless in New York City and the Rescue Mission in Salt Lake City just in time for the holidays and winter season.
The Coalition for the Homeless will distribute the socks to the Crisis Intervention Program and the Grand Central Food Program. The Crisis Intervention Program provides immediate counseling and assistance to the first 50-75 people who enter the shelter. They could be dealing with the possibility of eviction, problems in a neighboring shelter, in need of clothing or food, or a range of other things. The Coalition offers support that enables individuals to navigate through the system in order to begin solving their problems. The Grand Central Food program is a mobile soup kitchen that serves nearly 1,000 people every night of the year at different locations throughout the NYC. During the winter months they also try to provide socks, gloves, hats and scarves.
The Rescue Mission of Salt Lake exists to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the homeless, addicted and the poor through humanitarian efforts. They expect to serve over 27,000 meals this winter as they plan to see a surge in the number of people turning to them for help.
Point6 is actively involved in its local communities and proudly supports numerous fundraising efforts, including breast cancer and other medical research projects, youth organizations and various charities. Thousands of pairs of socks are donated to people in need, with a special focus on shelters serving the homeless.
