"23rd Century Ska", debut album release from Jay Dee Queue: the future sound of reggae?

Jan. 17, 2010 - PRLog -- "23rd Century Ska" is the debut release from Jay Dee Queue (pron. 'JDQ'), an up and coming producer and performer based in Orange County, California. He currently tours and plays locally with a amorphous group of musicians whom provide an instrumental accompaniment to his "jockeyed" beats. Though the influence of reggae music on the album is apparent on each track, its electronic production opens the door to a variety of tonal and thematic qualities from other genres.

After repeated listens, this author does not fancy Jay Dee Queue as preachy or pretentious, though the lyrics and their interplay with the music force the listener into a sort of self-reflective state. That said, the rehearsed lyrics find their contrast in the often unintelligible yet rhythmic "freestyles" that are interwoven into each song. Overall, this author would categorize this as "dance", with all other musical influences being secondary yet essential to the whole: this is evidenced by its being bass heavy, with many breaks and buildups characteristic of the genre.

All analysis aside, "23rd Century Ska"  is a unique and uplifting artistic composition, and should be allowed several listens through in order to absorb its composer's vision. The production quality could be described as "platinum", as it was post-produced and mastered by Lewis Richards of 17th Street Recording Studios (Slightly Stoopid, Dirty Heads, Sublime).
