We begin today talking about haiti with a focus on states-side surivors.
About 10 million people live in Haiti, and about a million Haitian emigrees and in the United States.
Judnick Mayard, a 2nd Generation 23 year old emigree who lives in Brooklyn, NewYork, had returned from a 12 day trip to haiti just several days before the earthquake.
She says she noticed a different Haiti from her last visit at the age of ten. She saw abundant cellphones. Internet cafe's. And made friends who would readily discuss their social media profiles. All this despite inconsistent electricity. It seemed Haiti was readying itself to leapfrog the ill-effects of colonization into the Twitter era.
And while the numbers of the dead and missing seem to be double daily, she is using every method she can / to contact her 9 uncles, aunts, and cousins who live near the epicenter of the quake.
