There have been at least 7,000 pages of proposed health care legislation introduced in the House and Senate since August of '09. For each bill introduced in the House, the Senate countered with something larger. Then back to the House. Punch. Counterpunch.
While getting access to the documents online is easy, reading them online is not. And printing a thousand pages or two at home usually not an option.
There has been one little company from Altoona, PA trying to make it easier for people to study these important bills.
GovPrint.us (http:www.govprint.us)
Matt Vidic, developer of both sites said "the demand for printing these government documents has been consistent, so as the health care debate was ramping up again in December, I developed GovPrint.us as a stand-alone site operated by Printme1.com."
In addition to simply providing the bills as-is in a bound book format, GovPrint.us also has a version of the larger bills that reduce the size and cost.
"We realized that there is a need for reducing the size of some of these documents, so we created a reformatted 2-up version of the larger ones, like the health care bills. A 2-up version uses the same file as provided by the government, but we print two pages of the bill on each side of print. Since we already print them double-sided, this reduces the size by another 50%. The costs are also about 50% less for these versions. There are product samples on the website, so the users can preview the products first before making a decision." said Vidic.
For example, the House health care bill is 1,990 pages. The standard, book version of this is $89.99, with free shipping. The 2-up version, is punched for a 3 ring binder and costs $44.99. Additional discounts are available for bulk orders of 5 or more items. This document would cost between $50-$80 to print at home, and over $200 to print at FedEx Kinko's.
GovPrint.us accepts all major credit cards through Paypal.
GovPrint.us began on December 8, 2009.
