A new boiler scrappage scheme to help 125,000 households replace their boilers was unveiled by the chancellor Alistair Darling.
The boiler scrappage scheme will help people get a new boiler by funding them with £400 to replace their boiler.
To qualify for the boiler scrappage scheme you must have a working gas boiler over 15 years old or an oil-fired one that is over 25 years old with a G energy rating. However if you are over 60 you qualify for the £400 even if the boiler is not in working condition.
A spokesperson from Credit Problems No Problem who specialise in sourcing loans for people with bad credit said, “The boiler scrappage scheme is saving people hundreds of pounds, so our customers don’t need to take out loans as large as they usually would to fund new central heating”
If you do not qualify for the boiler scrappage scheme you can still make huge savings on your annual bill by purchasing a new boiler.
“A new heater in your home could save you up to £230 a year on your gas bill. Before purchasing it is best to get at least 3 quotes from different boiler suppliers and buy the boiler direct where you can and you could save thousands of pounds.” said a specialist in sourcing loans from Credit Problems No Problem.
A specialist from Credit Problems No Problem says “Most quotes from independent boiler suppliers are between £2,000 and £2,500, so the boiler scheme is saving you around a fifth off of that”
“It is astonishing how much a new boiler could save you in the long run, only £10 in every £100 of your bill is wasted heat with an A-rated boiler. But with old style boilers around £40 in every £100 is wasted.” says a specialist in money saving from Credit Problems No Problem
If you are not sure what energy rating your boiler is visi www.boilerscrappagescheme.com to check its rating
You can make further savings if you were to purchase a boiler from either npower or British Gas as they offer a further £400 off.
“If you’re a low income household or a pensioner you should be wary of applying for the boiler scrappage scheme as you will qualify for the “Warm Front Scheme” that will provide you with a grant of up to a maximum of £3500 for a new boiler but if you claim for the boiler scrappage scheme you will not be able to apply for the Warm Front Scheme.” explains a spokesperson from Credit Problems No Problem
Getting an up to date thermostatic controllers on both your boilers and radiators could cut your bills by up to 17%.
If you are not sure what size boiler you need for your home you can visit www.energysavingtrust.org.uk and this will be able to help you.
The only problem with this scheme is that it could be considerably over subscribed as over 3.5 million households in the UK are estimated to be currently be using a G-rated boiler
