It has been predicted that the year 2010 could well be the year for UK tourism to return to its growing ways. The prediction was made by the official travel and accommodation guide of the United Kingdom, VisitBritain.
According to the agency recent reports of a study carried out by the International Passenger Survey had revealed certain figures showing that the United Kingdom received an increased 300,000 inbound visitors in 2009's first ten months, compared to 2008. It was further revealed that during August, September and October months of 2009 an year-on-year increase by 11 per cent was found in the number of North American tourists that visited the UK.
It has also been predicted that the total number of inbound visitors to the United Kingdom was believed to increase by 0.8 per cent to reach figures of 30.4 million during 2010.
VisitBritain's chief executive officer, Sandie Dawe said that tourism was found to be the most intensely growing industry in the world over the recent years, and in the United Kingdom, it was not only the third largest export earner, but also the fifth largest industry.
Dawe further pointed to the suggestions made by their forecasts that although the year 2010 might not just witness a record number of inbound visitors or even the revenue from the visitors' spend, the persisting weakness in the sterkling's value would result in more robust performance.
Meanwhile, another segment in the United Kingdom that is expecting a reasonable growth this year is the car rental segment, which is very much linked to the tourism industry of the country, if not a part of it. It is expected that with the Edinburgh Festival and the Ryder Cup to be held in Wales due this year the influx of the tourists might just surge considerably.
