Samsung has come out with a new entry-level device that packs in the functionalities you would find in most high-end mobile phones in today’s market. With all the Smart features on board, the Samsung Lindy M5650 is set to capture the hearts of consumers who have been longing for such technology but don’t have the budget to spend on an iPhone. Here’s a look at what Samsung has got in store for all of us.
Design and Construction
While the Lindy may have the familiar iPhone-like design (oversized touch screen display dominating the entire front surface accompanied only by a few basic buttons), it is definitely a funkier device. The neon blue back cover will literally catch the eye as it exudes a certain loudly playful yet discreetly sleek overall appeal. This bright idea roots from the Lindy’s predecessor, the Samsung Corby S3650 – another entry level touch screen device from Samsung. However, unlike the Corby, you can’t put on the fancy fashion jackets for a constant change of pace.
Jamaican Yellow, Minimal White, Cupid Pink, and Festival Orange are no longer colour choices for the Lindy, but the Neon Blue back cover can still satisfy your vivid desires. As for the actual measurements, the Samsung Lindy M5650 weighs 98 grams and has the dimensions of 106 x 57 x 12 mm. As mentioned before, its 2.8-inch touch screen display is what dominates the mobile’s front surface. It is of the TFT capacitive variety and also has the Cartoon UI on board. One downside though is that it can only display up to 256K colours – a far cry from the 16M colours found in most Smartphones.
The Claim to Fame
While it may have a number of handy features on board, what makes the Lindy quite impressive are the addition of two crucial features that were missing in the Corby. These were WLAN compatibility and 3G connectivity. With these two features on board, the Lindy can definitely claim to be a Smartphone as it already has all the basic features required for would-be iPhone contenders. Although it may not yet be at the same level as Apple’s seemingly untouchable device (but then again, few mobiles are), its price tag will definitely make you think twice.
Musically Inclined
It is also worth mentioning that the Samsung Lindy M5650 seems to be aiming for the more musically-inclined consumers out there. You could even say that it tries to bring some of the features of Nokia’s XpressMusic handsets to the table. The dedicated multimedia keys right below the end and accept call buttons is testament to this fact.
As for the actual multimedia player, it is also quite impressive as it is compatible with all of the popular multimedia file formats today which includes eAAC+, WMA, and MP3 for audio, and WMV, MP4, H.264, and H.263 for video. These dedicated multimedia features are definitely a welcome addition for a mobile phone that costs no more than £150.
