True astigmatically neutral cataract surgery has arrived! These truly key-hole surgeries with very small incisions has taken the safe phacoemulsification technique to another level. The surgical wounds are much more stable than the older 2.75 incisions, giving it the advantages of increased comfort, faster wound recovery, decreased risk of infection, more resistant to trauma and dry eyes. This is also made possible by advance lens which can be implanted through these keyhole wounds.
According to Dr JC Wang, Medical Director of Nobel Eye and Vision Centre, who has started to adopt this new technique found that comfort levels and outcomes in his patients has improved over the current excellent results. He mentioned that" by integrating another technique called limbal relaxing incisions, control of astigmatism during cataract surgery greatly improved.."
He is also delighted that faster recovery was made possible " In today's society, reducing down-time is very important because patients demand that as well. They want to be able to get-up and go after surgery to enjoy their new found vision. When they are happy, I am happy too!"
