Jan. 16, 2010 - PRLog -- PeerViewMirror.net (http://peerviewmirror.net) is a brand new social network devoted to connecting families and individuals affected by mental illness. PeerViewMirror enables those with mental health conditions or those interested in learning about those conditions to connect in a private, anonymous online environment. Members sign up with a unique user name and have the option to keep their identity secret by withholding their real name and picture, if they so choose. Members can share stories and experiences in anonymity to connect with others going through similar challenges in their lives or connect to other people assisting loved ones who are facing mental health issues.

Company Director, Brandon Whitworth, understands the need for community in this industry. Mental illness runs in Whitworth's family, and he has been affected by it much of his life.
"Mental illness affects all of our lives, whether we like it or not," Whitworth said. "It does not discriminate based on age, race, occupation, social status, sex, or religion. There is a common stigma in our culture that the only people with mental illness are the ones locked up behind walls, but many of our family members and friends that we see daily are mentally ill. The purpose of this site is to connect multiple types of people, from multiple types of backgrounds, environments, and occupations, whose lives have been affected by mental illness."

PeerViewMirror.net allows users to create profiles where they can choose to share information about themselves, post in forums, and create groups which can serve as an extension of their local support group. PeerViewMirror.net also allows users to communicate through email-style messaging, instant messaging / chat platforms, blogging, status updates, commenting, and post events which others can attend. Other features will be added as the site gets older and more enhancements will be made as time goes forward.
"My hope is that PVM will serve as an extension of the local support groups and can also serve as a place where curious minds can get their questions answered," Whitworth said. "We are just starting, but we hope to grow into a large community as we go forward."
