PRLog (Press Release) - Jan 13, 2010 -
Creating a website couldn't be easier -  free hosting, free template, free programmes and as a result...every one has one.

Some have estimated there are around 220 million websites now live in the world, with around 1 to 2 million new sites every month. Many of those use websites for personal reasons, to communicate with friends and for leisure. There is also a small portion of those websites with the direct aim to earn money.

Earning money with a website is also incredibly easy to do, with quality programmes like Google's own "AdSense", a publisher and advertisers can be linked in a matter of minutes and able to generate an income almost instantly.

The common goal these online entrepreneurs share is trying to obtain a high organic rank with google and other major search engines. The result - a large amount of free visits to their site. The higher the amount of visits, the higher amount of potential to make money.

There are many factors which determine what ranks a site top when it comes to a search engine. Naturally for a search engine, they want to provide the most accurate possible result for a user because that is the service they provide. For that reason they have created complex algorithms to decide on the ranks, most of which is top secret.

One of the few things website builders are aware off, is building a quality amount of backlinks to their site will rank higher. The reason for this is if a site is linked by many other sites, it suggests the importance of that site is greater than a duplicate site no inbound links.

The result of this knowledge is a chaotic viral effect of spam, junk, link dropping and a general nuisance for any web user trying to enjoy their surf time.

An Example is the social programe Twitter, which has been turned into a breading ground for spam. Some website owners will willingly pay a twitter account holder with a large amount of followers money for promoting their site via a "tweet" and providing a link.

Forums were onced used for the sole purpose for friends to chat and people to meet each other, now they are full of link droppers, spam artists trying to promote their site and any other means to generate more "backlinks" to their site.

The rather comical thought with all this spam is that Google has a very effective "spam bot" which can detect these kind things and lower a websites rank as a result. Most spammers don't know this because they are by no means knowlegable on search engine mechanics. Unfortunatly, that still results in a large amount of spam being produced but there is one plesant thought to rememer and that is, these spammers are simply wasting their time and doing their business more harm than good.
