Arkansas Athletic Recruiting Consultants, Inc. proudly celebrates its 15th Anniversary in assisting Arkansas high school athletes in fulfilling their dream of playing their sport in college. “We assist both male and female Arkansas athletes in football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, cheerleading, and most of the other major sports” says owner, Wayne Lee. “We have been doing this for a long time, and our alumni include most of the state’s premiere athletes who have gone on to excellent college and many even to pro careers” said Lee. He notes that while assisting these high profile athletes obviously draws the most publicity, the company’s focus has always remained on helping kids.
Lee notes that high school athletes and their parents are often unfamiliar with the recruiting process. “They often don’t know what they should be doing or when they should start, says Lee. “They seem to operate under the assumption that if the athlete is good enough everyone will find them”. He also notes that this pattern ends up every year with what the industry calls “springtime panic” – that time in the spring of the athlete’s senior year when the options are not what everyone hoped and panic sets in. “The name of the game in recruiting is exposure to the colleges” Lee maintains. “You have to get the college coaches exposed to the athlete and then get the high school and college coaches talking. Successful recruiting takes planning and the process needs to start early – preferably in the freshman or sophomore year”. When it is not done properly, the athlete ends up missing a chance to play at a college that really might have needed them, and the parents often place the blame on the high school coach. “This is really unfair, and can be avoided just by doing it right”, says Lee. “But”, notes Lee, “You only get one chance to do this right”.
