The paintings of Andrej Krivda are simultaneously simple and invariably complex. Compositionally they appear to be quite straightforward, comprised of vertical lines juxtaposed. Yet in reality, these creations — inspired by computer viruses — embody a striking richness derived in large part from the artist’s choice of medium and technique. He has traded the traditional tools of the painter for the computer, embarking on a quest for a “harmonious pattern” rendered, via an ink jet printer, on canvas. The vast digital palette with which he works allows him to subtly alter hues in ways unavailable to conventional painters, thus creating a visually stimulating array of color and line width. Another complex aspect of his work is the manner in which he signs his art, namely with his own DNA — a speck of blood, perhaps, or a small piece of hair — marking his technological and artistic achievement with his unique genetic signature.
Andrej Krivda’s art, which undoubtedly draws on the artist’s background in engineering and mathematics, has been exhibited throughout Europe and North America. Born in Slovakia, he currently works and resides in Switzerland.

If abstraction is the casting aside of realistic conventions, then Labyrinth of Abstraction are the incredible results provided by that artistic freedom. These artists are finding their own voice within the endless possibilities, and we are treated with wonderfully inventive images that speak to us on a plane just beyond the effable. Influences range from the natural to the psychological realms, and yet inspiration for this group lurks everywhere.
