Televisions.com has published its review of the JVC LT-42 R10 BU, in which the reviewers combine subjective picture-quality evaluations with laboratory measurements to give an overall rating of the TV’s performance; the JVC scored 7.0 out of 10 points. The review praises various aspects of the JVC’s performance - especially the screen’s accurate colours and 24p reproduction. On top of these positives comes praise for the set’s low power consumption and “surprisingly good” sound. But it’s not all positive: The reviewer list criticisms including low contrast, a poor set of features, and bad labelling on the remote control. On top of that, they point out deficiencies in the TV’s motion clarity - in their example scene from the Blu-ray “Casino Royale”, this meant that the reviewers could hardly see the intended “movie look”. One reviewer said: “The combination of poor motion clarity and obvious line flicker in certain scenes means trouble for picture perfectionists.”

And even though Televisions.com gave the JVC’s colours the overall thumbs-up, the review points out small irregularities in the TV’s colour temperature, and that cyan contain too much green. Contrast, the reviewer explains, was similarly disappointing: “One definite thorn in the JVC’s side is its low contrast ratio. The automatic lamp adjustment based on the picture’s contents works effectively, producing a dynamic contrast of 3,600:1, but the picture-depth just doesn’t materialize.” The review takes a positive turn, however, when it turns its attention to the TV’s sound, with the reviewers expressing their surprise at the JVC’s performance and praising its solid bass and automatic volume adjustment. In summarising, Televisions.com’s editor-in-chief, Florian Friedrich, said: “Its contrast and motion-clarity show some weaknesses, but the LT-42 R 10 BU is energy-efficient and bright, and has a decent set of speakers.”
