What's in a Name?
How much impact can one's name have on the future? For author Rosella Rhine, that future seemed dim as her christened name was never remembered and always mispronounced. If no one could remember her name, would anyone remember her? Would her disadvantage from birth carry into the future? How much impact can a name really have on life and happiness?
In typical romance novels, boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love, something happens to keep them apart but, eventually, everything works out fine. In Rosella Rhine's new memoir Life's a Piñata: Full of Surprises, real life isn't that easy. Raised in an era when women stayed home and cared for the children, Rosella was forced to find a job and become a single mother after gathering the courage to leave her alcoholic, womanizing husband. With grit and determination, she realizes success in the workplace, ranging from helping the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) become a reality to a career in interior design. While at BART, she meets the man who will finally bring her the love, support and happiness she has sought most of her life, only to have it end too soon. Finally, while searching for peace and solace, she moves to Italy and her ethnic roots, and while there, truly learns to embrace that Life's a Piñata: Full of Surprises.
"Life's a Piñata had a voice I trusted from the start, which remained strong and true throughout. You have an excellent eye for detail, drawing the reader into a story that is written in a fast-paced, breezy, and easy-to-read style." —Barbara S. Brauer, Editor, Wordsworth of Marin
Told with humor, and yet filled with poignant moments that touch the reader, Rosella fills her story with detail, drawing the reader into a book that is written in a fast-paced, breezy and easy to read style. She is a natural storyteller who has found an appropriate genre in this memoir.
