British-born writer Kathy Page, whose seventh novel 'The Find' will be published in Canada in April, will be in London for a brief visit in March, and will teach two day-long workshops for writers of fiction in central London.
CREATING CHARACTERS (13th March) Provides an opportunity to develop a new fictional character and, through writing exercises, look at ways of bringing these characters alive on the page. Participants will leave with a new person in their lives, and plenty of ideas for future pieces of writing.
DISCOVERING DIALOGUE (14th March) Characters come alive when they speak. Yet they mustn't talk to much! Working in a small group format you'll gain an understanding of how dialogue differs from actual speech, and how it can carry and deepen the story you want to tell.
Kathy Page was long-listed for the Orange Prize in 2001 for 'The Story of My Face', which is currently in development with True West Films. Her next novel 'Alphabet', was short-listed for a Governor General’s Award (Canada) in 2005. Her latest book, 'The Find', is forthcoming in Canada in April. An experienced workshop facilitator, she has taught writing at The Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada, the Arvon Foundation in the UK, and at universities in both Europe and North America. Born in London, she now lives on Salt Spring Island, BC, Canada. (www.KathyPage.info)
