Jan. 12, 2010 - PRLog -- With talk of global warming, conserving energy and the threat of ever rocketing gas and electricity prices in the news, the installation of double glazing is once again becoming the top priority for many homeowners. As well as the ability to keep in heat and save on energy bills, a set of double glazed windows and doors will also help beautify your house and increase its value.

Having taken the decision to have new windows installed the next thing to do is go about choosing a double glazing company. But that is easier said than done as there is certainly no shortage of window companies offering their services. They advertise on TV and in the press. When visiting a county show or exhibition do not be surprised to see at least one glazing company hosting a stall there.

As in most lines of business, the competition should be good for the customer. There are, of course, good double glazing companies and bad ones, ones that charge extortionate prices and those whose prices are reasonable, ones who produce first class fitting and those that are shoddy. When choosing a supplier, you will want a company that produces a wide and top quality range of double glazed doors and windows at a price you can afford. They also need to be able to furnish you with prompt delivery times, first class fitters and the best guarantee possible.

With there being no shortage of competition among window companies you should be able to shop around for the best possible deal. Check online though it is probably better to look through your local telephone directory. Although there will be dozens of businesses listed only consider those that are affiliated to the Guild of Master Builders or similar organisation. Also, word of mouth is very important and if you regularly hear good things about one particular company than that is as good an indication as any that they will do a good job.  Don't be swayed by slick television or radio advertising and if there is a local double glazing showroom near to you go and look at what they have to offer.

When choosing a company to install your windows it is always best to enquire who they have done work for in the area. Ask for the names and phone numbers of their local clients so you can ask them how they rated the work done.

Having finally chosen a double glazing company ensure that any quotes for the work, including delivery times and time expected to carry out the fitting, are put in writing. Also ask if there are likely to any additional costs and insist that these are also put in writing. It is also advisable to check what kind of guarantee will cover your new windows – especially as “life time” guarantees can be restricted to a set number of years.
