Supermodel Farah Zulaikha debuts at India International Fashion Week
Jan. 11, 2010 - PRLog -- As an internationally recognized star, New York-based supermodel, socialite, and stunner Farah Zulaikha has walked in countless runway shows. In December 2009, Farah Zulaikha graced the runway in New Delhi, India for Oxybleach India International Fashion Week (OIIFW). OIIFW marked “the marriage of international fashion with beauty” but also brought together eleven international designers and one Indian designer on the runway. The shows were also sponsored by Canon Film and Indian haircare giant Dabur. Farah Zulaikha walked for all participating designers, including Ramon Gurillo, Tina Haagensen, Rudy Wolff, Monica Paracha, Monapali, famed Romanian couturier Catalin Botezatu, Israeli designer Chen Cohen and couture designer Andres Aquino. Fresh off the heels of supermodel Naomi Campbell's recent Indian runway appearance, Farah Zulaikha made her debut in India, even donning the same creation which Campbell wore for designer Mustafa Hassanali. Farah Zulaikha became an instant crowd favorite with her eastern look, including her trademark long dark hair, pouty lips, and signature runway walk. Subsequently, Farah Zulaikha was in high demand on the runway, walking for all participating designers. Farah Zulaikha also garnered a massive amount of media and press attention during her run in India, as she was the only model who could speak and understand Hindi. Farah Zulaikha also served to diffuse the controversy surrounding the model selection, as all the participating models were foreign and no local Indian models were casted for the OIIFW shows, to the protest of some. Thus, Farah Zulaikha became the official "model liason" for the OIIFW shows, interacting with an appreciative Indian public through countless press and red carpet interviews. As the muse of hair master Federico Calce, Farah Zulaikha put her flowing long locks to good use at a Dabur Vatika Hair Oil press conference where she shared the stage with Bollywood starlet Preity Zinta. Farah Zulaikha spoke on the importance of hair care from a model's perspective. As the "darling diva" of the OIIFW shows, Farah Zulaikha also was a frequent first face on the runway and a showstopper closing model as well. For the grand finale show of OIIFW, Farah Zulaikha filled both roles, as the opening and closing model of couturier Andres Aquino's collection. Painted green by Hollywood makeup maven Mahealani Diego, Farah Zulaikha dramatically sauntered down the runway as a snarling Medusa character in a long gold french lace beaded Aquino gown. Her long hair was twisted with strings of light into snake-like projections that lit up the catwalk. Having gained instant popularity in Asia after her debut on the Indian runway, Farah Zulaikha stated that she is "very thankful" for her Indian fans and vows to return to India soon.
