Jan. 11, 2010 - PRLog -- Cleveland, Ohio – Kovels, a leading publisher of antique and collectibles information, today released a list of antiques and collectibles - many of them widely available - that will become popular in 2010. The list, entitled Kovels Top 10 Tips To Buying Smart in 2010, identifies antiques poised to rise in value that includes both centuries old antiques and recently produced collectibles. The list can be found at http://www.kovels.com in the Kovels Komments section, or on Kovels.com’s official blog, http://www.kovels.blogspot.com

Compiled by Kovels’ staff of antique experts, the list includes classic items such as 19th century Chinese and Japanese furniture which is, “down in price and not selling well at auction” but likely to make a comeback in coming years. Other entries are less familiar. In Japan, monster toys called Kaiju (i.e. Godzilla figures) have been popular for years. Interest is beginning to cross the Pacific and early Kaiju toys now sell for hundreds of dollars.

With the economy continuing to suffer, many consumers turn to antiques as a more interesting, unique, and affordable alternative to new items. Eighteenth-century Chippendale desks with dropdown fronts can be affordable, but are often considered impractical. However, as the Top 10 Tips list explains, “some desks have an open area near the drawers in the back section. It can store a laptop - a new idea that makes the desk usable again. Prices will go up.”

Interested collectors can sign up to receive Kovels Komments as a free, weekly email by going to Kovels’ site, www.kovels.com.
